Headed to Houston

We're heading back to Texas in just a couple of weeks, and this time we're headed to Houston. We've been looking to move to Texas, as last year we went to Austin & San Antonio. So far by the way things are going, i'd say we currently have a 95% chance we're actually moving. It's pretty exciting since we both feel as though we can't move in a forward direction in life and as a couple in California. It's time for a change and this feels like good timing.

We've been lookiong for things to do while we're in Houston and I have to admit, the only place I'm really looking forward to going to so far is CRAVE.

We've officially set a date!!

My husband and I eloped last December so we could buy a house early this year. We figured it would save us money and the headache of trying to change all of the paperwork over to my new last name at a later date. I agreed to get married down at the courthouse as long as I still got to have a decent wedding where I could invite all of my friends and family, pretty much what every girl dreams about right? So we didn't tell any of our friends or family since we know we'd have another wedding shortly after we bought our home. With the home prices coming down so low in California, you'd think we would be able to find a house. We searched for what seems like forever and then finally found a brand new condo just built. We put deposits down, picked out our flooring and window coverings, and filled out all of our paperwork, Our escrow was set to close on February 24th. The very next day I got laid off from my job. We pretty much had to cancel everything immediately as we couldn't afford the condo we picked out on my husbands salary alone. I try not to feel guilty about losing our dream house, but it's still hard. I have to work on that daily. So in the meantime, we've been searching high and low and even with home prices as low as they are for California, they are still too high or when we find something in our price range, they are either in bad areas or they are super tiny! There's no way we can fit into a 2 Bedroom 1 Bath at 750 sq ft. So the house hunt continues.... In the meantime, we've officially set a wedding date so we can get married since it was slightly put on hold when we were searching for a house. I just feel so good, like we're finally moving forward :)

¿Dónde está Jess?

Man, I feel like I've been missing, or like I fell off the face of the earth for a week. This week has been absolutely insane! I've had a ton of interviews and have been running around doing errands, and then low and behold on Thursday I got a new job! Say goodbye Unemployment, because I am now back in the work force. It's a little bittersweet, as I have enjoyed my whole month and a half off of work. It's given me time to focus on myself. I've been able to go to the gym daily, catch up on my reading, open my etsy shop Dolliewood, and just take advantage of my time off. And while my unemployment had put a little stress in our lives, I am now back to work. I am happy to be bringing in some money again, but at the same time.. I already miss my mornings at the gym, and my afternoons painting new dolls and watching Martha Stewart or some of my favorite movies LOL! What's amazing is that even with this economy, I found another job just after a month and a half :) yay!

I am working for a design group called Visual Unrest. They design and two varieties of apparel. They design military apparel for 7.62 Design, and a gothic/horror apparel line as well called Nightshade. So far I like working there. Everyone is really nice, and has a a really crazy sense of humor. I guess you'd have to when you work at a place where you design stuff like this... :)

Shop Appearances

I'm finally going to get my shop up and running this week~Yay! I had the lovely Maree of Work at Home Designs design me a new Etsy Banner and a whole business package with business cards, postcards, web ads, avatars etc... Her work is outstanding! I've worked with her before to re-vamp Snail Mail Creations etsy shop, and each time she designed exactly what I was looking for. Here's some of Maree's work she did for Dolliewood... Isn't it super cute??

I ordered my business cards and postcards today, so I'm really excited to get those in the mail.

Many Thanks to Maree, without her my shop wouldn't look so adorable!

Spring Cleaning & Decorating

The hubs has been sick for the past few days (nothing contagious thank goodness!) So I've been spending a lot of time taking care of him when he hasn't been feeling the greatest. I took some time to do some cleaning and I realized we have a consistent color combo flowing throughout the entire house. I was noticing everything in our home decor is in a turquoise blue and brown color combo. When my husband moved in with me before we got married, I chose Blue & Brown since it was pretty neutral and not too girly. Some time has gone by, and after cleaning the bathroom this weekend, I just couldn't take it anymore and decided I needed a change. I wanted a more vibrant and cheerful color scheme to look at now that I'm home most of the day. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in the bathroom 24/7 or anything, but since I was already cleaning the bathroom, I figured it was the easiest and less conspicuous place to start, rather than switching out everything in my living room LOL! My husband is a Man's-Man {insert grunting man noises here} who isn't too fond of anything pink, so I couldn't just casually switch out everything in the living room without him noticing LOL! So I ran over to Target to get out of the house and bought all new accessories for our bathroom ~ Yay!

I was looking for a prettier picture on Target's website to reference to, but they don't have it on their website for some reason? Although they do have matching duvets, and kitchenware...Oh my! My husband better watch out, I'm going to slowly take over the house with new bright colors.
